Who is the Pastoral Staff?
Check out our Meet The Staff page for a directory.

How old is Oakbrook?
Oakbrook church began in September, 1985. Mark and Ronda Malin, along with a small group of pioneers are the founders of the church. To hear more of the history of Oakbrook consider coming to our Core Classes that are offered throughout the year.

What does a typical Sunday Morning service look like?
Our typical service includes 3-4 music numbers, a drama sketch, video vignette, and a 30-minute relevant message. The entire service usually runs 60 minutes.

Where are you located?
See our Directions page for detailed directions and maps.

What should I wear to the service?
Casual dress is the norm. In summer months, it is not a surprise to see folks in shorts. Don't make any special arrangements - we want you to come just as you are.

Do I need to bring a Bible?
At Oakbrook, we project the Word of God on two large multimedia screens. This method assures that we are all reading from the same translation, and makes it convenient for the churchgoer. You are encouraged to bring your Bible if you have one, and Bibles are available at the back of the auditorium if you do not.

What about my kids?
At OakBrook, we value children. That's why we have a creative, age-appropriate ministry, UpStreet, that includes music, drama, activities, small groups, and a lesson from the Bible. Our UpStreet ministry is for infants through 6th grade, and it meets concurrently with each adult service. KidStuf is a highly interactive program designed for kids (K-6th grades) to attend with their parents that also happens on Sunday mornings. OSM (Oakbrook Student Ministries) is targeted to junior high and high school students. OSM happens on Sunday nights with small groups and other events and retreats throughout the year.

Will I be asked to give money?
As a guest, you will not be expected to participate in the giving portion of our service. However, if Oakbrook is your church home, then yes, we ask you to give to the work of God in this church.

Will I be singled out as a first time visitor?
As our guest, you will not be asked to announce yourself, sign anything, or differentiate yourself in any way. We value your right to anonymity and our hope is that you will just come, enjoy the service, and be able to apply the teaching to your life. If you'd like to introduce yourself to some of Oakbrook's key staff, we invite you to participate in Discover Oakbrook.

What denomination is Oakbrook? What do you believe?
Oakbrook is not affiliated with any denomination. We teach Christianity based solely on the Bible. We believe the Bible is the infallible word of God and it is our standard for all we do. For a more complete look at our beliefs, please see our Statement of Faith and the about OCC section of the website.

I've heard some things about Oakbrook's use of "secular" and "pop" music. Why do you use it?
Oakbrook's view of music is that it fits within the grander scope of the fine arts (music, drama, dance, traditional and electronic media). It is our belief that churches worldwide have forgotten that at one time, the church was THE place to go to see the arts expressed as glory to God. Whether it was Sculpture, Music, Stained Glass, Woodworking, or Painting - the church had the corner on it. And the result was that people were drawn to God through the use of it. It is our intention to TAKE BACK THE ARTS for the glory of God. That is why you will see all the fine arts variously used in our services.

If Oakbrook is a Christian church, why isn't there a cross inside or outside the building?
We try very hard to make our building become a safe, non-threatening environment to people who are far from God. If our building is built and designed with excellence, but it feels more like a university campus or corporate building, then a person far from God will be more likely to feel relaxed and disarmed. This means that they will be more likely to listen to the life changing message of Jesus Christ.
