God's Word is clear: life change happens best in the context of community. Oakbrook is about life change. If community is God's way of bringing this about, then we are about it too and we do this in groups.
COMING SOON!!!! 40 Days in the Word
-this 6 week small group series will coincide with our churchwide series. This is the best time to get in a small group this semester and we are challenging EVERYONE to be in a group for these 6 weeks. The series begins Feb. 12th and groups will begin meeting a week later. Simply fill out the online sign up form to get plugged in! During this 6 week adventure, you will learn to read, understand, and live out God's Word like never before!!
So what is a small group exactly & why are they so important to Oakbrook?
Groups at Oakbrook are the key places where people, no matter where they are at on their spiritual journey, get connected and take steps to grow in their understanding and relationship with Jesus Christ. We believe that spiritual growth flows out of 2 basic committments: a committment to God and the Bible & a commitment to significant Christian relationships. Small groups are our way as a church to help people fulfill these commitments and therefore small groups are an essential expression of our church's mission to help people find Jesus and live like Him. We believe that the church is not a building but rather it is a faith filled movement and it is in our small groups where this movement comes alive. It is our desire to see every person that calls Oakbrook their home to be a part of a thriving small group community!
What do small groups do?
-hang out, share life, study God's word, & serve......Live Like Jesus.
When do small groups meet?
-We divide the small group calendar into 2 semesters. Entry points and exit points are offered each semester so at the end of each semester you will have the option to stay with your group, try a different group, or even take a break. Most groups stay together throughout the entire year. The 'Summer' season for groups (June-August) is less structured and usually focuses on connection & serving. Few groups study anything in the summer. During the Fall/Winter & Winter/Spring semesters, groups are encouraged to meet weekly or bi-weekly. Most groups study the weekend sermons but some groups choose their own course of study at different times during the year. Groups choose their own meeting day and meeting times.
What is the required commitment to join a small group?
-Joining a group requires a commitment to be a regular participant in the life of the group for that specific semester. If you are new to the group, you are given 3 to 4 weeks to attend the group to make sure it's a good fit for you. If not, you are free to leave and try a different group.
How do I find a group?
-We strongly recommend choosing a group based on life stage or affinity rather than a group's location. We have found that groups do best when put together this way. Review our list of groups and let us know which groups interest you the most. The best time to join a group is at the beginning of a semester. We will have a sign up process for 2 to 3 weeks before each semester and there may be a few other entry points during the midpoint of a semester. If you would like to connect into a group before the next semester arrives, please scroll through the list and look for groups that are 'open'. If you can't seem to find a group that fits or if you have questions please contact Jason Braun at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 455.1100 x215.
