Your ability to stay in love has as much to with the condition of your heart-as it does with your spouse.

Andy's talked hinged on this process:
1. Stop and think about what you're feeling before you speak.
2. Name your emotion.
(i.e. anger, left out, embarrassed, unappreciated, ugly, unlovable, failure, old, stupid, lonely, abandoned, scared, out of control, betrayed, picked-on, jealous, disrespected.)
3. Then say it out loud-to yourself at first, then later to your partner. "I feel _____________."
"Mrs. Mug, when you say/do ___________, I feel _____________."
Response: "I'm so glad you told me." (then be quiet)
Much of what we feel is stuff we brought to the relationship.
Healthy people stop doing the things that elicit negative reactions in others.
To stay in love: pay attention to your heart.
God, help me overcome the things inside me.
This talk made me think of a lot of the baggage I brought to my marriage. Some of it I've overcome, some I haven't. It made me also think about how my actions today are contributing to my kids' future relational health or future "baggage."
