WOW...What a great day at Oakbrook!
I just returned home from our 25th anniversary celebration. It was great spending a wonderful evening with about 300 of you reminiscing about the last 25 years at Oakbrook. Some of the original "Brooks Brothers" opened up the night with Smile, and I have to say that Monty has not loss any of his edge over all his years here at the church. That song was just as amazing tonight as it was when they played it in 1995 at our "I Love This Place" outreach event.
We laughed a lot at some of the old pictures, listened to video greetings from past Oakbrook staff, but the best part of the night was listening to the stories of life change. After all, that was why a young 26 year old youth pastor named Mark Malin and a handful others who had a vision and dream of reaching people who did not go to church started Oakbrook. There were many who thought we were crazy, many who thought it would never work, many who disagreed with out methods, but as Mark read the names of some of the people who had found Christ over the years, we knew it was all worth it.
You will want to make sure and be here the next four weeks as Mark unpacks our vision for Oakbrook for the next five years. We truly believe that our best days are ahead of us, and that we will achieve more in the next five years then in the last 25. Don't miss it!
Don't forget to be all about S-2. Come on Sundays, join a small group, volunteer.
How about Macey Rice and the band knocking that Mandisa song "out of the park" this morning?!? That song was so full of truth. It was an awesome way to close out the service. It gave me chills.
I was really moved this morning by the tremendous response to my message and for the number of hands that were raised by those in attendance who find themselves in The Land Between. The bookstore sold all the copies of the book that we had and more were ordered.
Remember, God leads us through the land we most want to avoid in order to produce in us that which we most desperately need.
The Land Between has a purpose. God wants to grow something deep and lasting, but you must cooperate with God for the season of hardship to work its intended transformation. Persevere (James 1:3-4) and you will emerge on the other side with a faith worth having, and you will discover that the place you most wanted to escape has now produced the fruit that you most desperately needed.
