Monday Morning Recap, 06.07
A few Monday morning thoughts from another great Sunday at Oakbrook...
As I sat and watched our musicians flat out kill the Prelude yesterday...I felt so fortunate to be in a church where gifted and humble servants use their gifts for a higher calling. What about you? How are you using your giftedness to help people find Christ and learn to live like him?
The big idea of The Practical Atheist series is really challenging me as I teach through it. We believe in God yet in many ways live as if He doesn't exist. I'm hoping to not only believe in God this week-but live like I do...join me.
Two of my favorite quotes from the talk yesterday: 1. Bitterness is like drinking poison and then waiting for the other person to die. 2. To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner is you.
As a way to reinforce the truth from yesterdays talk spend some time here this week: Ephesians 4:31-32; Hebrews 12:15; Luke 6:28; Matthew 5:43-44.
Talked with several people who need to let go and forgive. Praying lots of people will find the freedom and healing that forgiveness brings us.
So thankful for people like Ryan and Elizabeth Peacock and hundreds of others who faithfully support the mission of Oakbrook financially! I must say Ryan looked awesome in that Michigan shirt!
Join the Generous Summer Movement by giving online! It is convenient, user-friendly and most importantly it will help you stay consistent in your giving even when your not at a weekend service! We need 50 people to go here and get started...http://www.oakbrookchurch.com/give/ ...NEW GIVERS WELCOMED!
I was really proud of the Oakbrook Band as they performed Friday evening downtown at the Kokomo Arts Pavilion. You represented us well band! Way to go.
On a personal note-our family celebrated my grandson Mason's 4th birthday yesterday after church! Hard to believe he is 4 already. I'm so blessed to have this little man in my life...

As always...Don't Just Talk About It...Be About...Helping People Find Jesus and Live Like Him...this week!
Love Doing Church With You Guys,
Mark

Forgiveness all around Morgan. Cool! Man it’s quiet in the comment world today. Anybody else out there with some comments? Might be another summer trend-comments on the blog go way down in the summer ![]()
Whats up Oakbrook…lets get some dialogue going and encourage each other to live like Him!

All I can say is, I didn’t realize I was tasting “poison”. I don’t like the taste, and really want to stop taking it. It’s just so hard when the other person doesn’t see the need to be forgiven. Still working on that one
Been too many years!!

There’s nothing better than starting church with “Sweet Home Chicago” and then leaving church and finding ourselves still talking about the actual message! After 8 hour marathon of graduation open houses sunday, we were still talking about it how finding forgiveness has simplified our life. The great thing is, that seems to happy every sunday! Pretty awesome stuff. Thank you for humbling us Mark Malin! Keep up the great work and reallllly looking forward to NEXT sunday. So grateful to have Oakbrook in our life!!

Last Sunday’s service was great, thanks for the wisdom.
I was just thinking about another side “Practical Atheist” could mean. Of course there are the people who believe in God, yet live like he doesn’t exist, but what about the people who don’t believe in God, yet follow principles of Christianity? Christians in Philosophy I guess. Just a brain dropping.
By Jordy Williams on June 08, 2010
That’s a great comment Jordy. In fact one of my best friends has some of the highest character,(on a Christian scale), yet he is not a Christian. His respect, honesty, love, patience, etc are among the highest of anyone I know including Christians. It’s amazing really.
