Monday Morning Recap, 03.22
My thoughts from a truly amazing day at Oakbrook...
*Wow...in all the years I have been in ministry (25+) yesterday was one of the most powerful services I have ever been a part of!
*There is something about the Ritual of Baptism. Nothing captures the life changing power of the gospel quite like Baptism.
*Congratulations to everyone who walk into the waters yesterday and publicly proclaimed that Jesus Christ is the Savior and Leader of their life! So proud of you guys!!
*Way to go everyone who decided to get Baptized during the service yesterday! That took some courage and again I am so proud of those who stepped out and responding to God!!
*When we were almost done baptizing people a girl whose Dad and sister got baptized earlier in the service decided right then that she wanted to be baptized. So she ran out to change her clothes as we waited for her. I will never forget watching her hurry down front to the stage! I'm telling you I would have waited all day for her!! Only God.
*I am so thankful to serve at a church that God is using to draw people to himself. That never gets old!
*And isn't it such a powerful experience to worship God while people are being Baptized? To sing about our great God while we seeing people going public is so powerful.
*Many have asked about the new song we learned yesterday called Our God. It is a song written and performed by Chris Tomlin. You can find it on a new recording by Passion called Awakening. You can get it at itunes or at Lakeside Books. The whole album is awesome.
*This Sunday is our final week in the Ritual series. The last Ritual we are unpacking is the Ritual of Communion. Be praying this week for Morgan Young as he prepares this final talk on Communion. Should be a great way to end this series.
*Good Friday and Easter are only 2 weeks away! The Good Friday service is at 7PM and then Easter services on Sunday at 9 & 11AM. Please be praying that God will use these services to draw more people to himself. And if you are coming don't come alone. Grab some invite cards and get them in the hands of your friends and family. You will be so glad you did. Who knows maybe someday you will be walking into the waters of baptism with them!!
As always....Don't Just Talk About It-Be About It!
Love doing church with you guys,
Mark

3/21/10 Service was nothing short of Awesome!! I was moved to tears almost from the moment I walked in on Sunday. The Baptisms (both planned and not) were truly remarkable. A new spark was fired in me as well. As always, thank you Mark for the wonderful messages you bring to us each and every week.

Having been at Oakbrook since our start 25 years ago, I would certainly echo Mark’s comments that yesterday was indeed one of the best if not THE best and memorable services in our history. One of the people who accepted Christ yesterday and was baptized is on a list of men that I pray for in the front of my bible. It felt good to put March 21, 2010 by his name and cross his name off. God is sooooo good!

I am still buzzing over yesterday’s service!! So incredible to witness so many miracles all at once. The tears of joy would not stop, and that was tough considering I was running the lyrics!! (sorry folks!!) What an honor to have been there. What a celebration it was!!!

Reflecting on yesterdays baptism… the holy sprit has moved me forward one more step in my walk with Jesus this was truly an awesome experience and as a friend of mine said as he got out of the waters and walked back stage not knowing I was arround….I heard him say to himself “now this is what its all about ”

Wow! What a wonderful, powerful service. By the time “How Great Thou Art” was sung, I was practically sobbing. I feel so proud and blessed to call Oakbrook “my church”. Thank you!

Having the opportunity to take my Kindegarten boys from Upstreet into the service to witness these people make that statement thru baptism was more moving than I antcipated. You see as we all celebrated with our brothers and sisters walking into the waters, I looked at my group of boys and wondered which ones are going to get GOD at a young age, a teenager, a young adult or older? That brought me to tears, thinking that God has ordered me to pray for each one of these little guys so that one day they too will be walking into those waters. GOD IS GOOD! Thanks Mark for listening to God so that I could be part of HIS story!
