Monday Morning Recap, 02.22
My thoughts from yesterday…
I certainly hope you were able to arrive early enough yesterday to hear the two prelude songs. Aubri and Macey were amazing as well as the entire band. I don’t know what I enjoyed more…The songs or the fun I could see our band having as they played those songs from the past. God has certainly blessed us with great musical talent.
How was the rest of your Sabbath yesterday? I really tried to take some of my own advice…Went home and had a fire in the fireplace, put on some worship music, played two games of Scrabble with my wife (won one lost one)…And then my lovely wife made us one of those “Sunday kind of dinners” you always dream about…Meatloaf, mash potatoes, green beans, rolls, and brownies for desert. Our daughter came over and joined us for this wonderful meal and then we sat and talked a little while watching a funny movie.
How refreshing to be reminded that the Sabbath is not about “rule keeping”. The heart of the Sabbath is about two things…Loving God and loving others. In the midst of doing those two things, we need to rest, remember, reflect and have some recreation.
Sabbath days, like other spiritual disciplines, just won’t happen though. You need to plan for them. Work on getting things done like house cleaning, grocery shopping, and other errands during the week so that you can enjoy God more on the Sabbath. Be intentional.
Ask yourself those four questions I gave you at the end of the message…
What turns my affection toward Jesus?
What gets my heart excited about my relationship with Jesus?
What brings glory to God?
What do I enjoy?
Your best Sabbaths will be at the intersection of those four things.
Give yourself some time. Be flexible as you go into this. Remember to focus on progress and not perfection. You do no have to be an “Olympic Sabbath Keeper”. Hey, speaking of the Olympics…How about the USA hockey team defeating Canada?!?!? (sorry Jason Braun, couldn’t resist)
Okay, I would now love to hear some of your comments or thoughts from yesterday. I had an e-mail this morning from a person telling me how they spent the day by watching a movie with friends, a short nap, nice dinner and conversation with friends. What about you? Plan to make any changes after yesterday?
Don’t forget “Classes@Oakbrook” starting March 3rd. You can sign up on-line.
As always…Just don’t talk about it, be about it.

Great talk yesterday Karl. I also enjoyed the music. I am suggesting that next week that we add some 80’s hair band outfits/wigs to the mix!
It is funny how our culture has everyone so wrapped up in being busy that taking time off never seems like the right thing to do. It is too bad that we are made to feel as though that is being lazy.

I liked your point that if we can’t take “little sabbaths” in the course of a day we probably will never get to taking an all day sabbath.
