Monday Morning Recap, January 4th
Thoughts from yesterday...Hard to believe another year has already come and gone. It seems that the years go so much faster now...A lot of people blame that on age, but I'm not going to go down that road (although I did turn a year older over the holidays).
The Christmas services were totally awesome. I hope that you were able to be there for one of them. Although they were different then past years, I went home after each one feeling so full of the presence of God. I especially enjoyed the worship songs that we did...And how about seeing all the people down front holding candles representing a life that was changed in 2009!!! It simply does not get any better then that.
If you have been around Oakbrook for long, you know that I do not speak on Sunday mornings on a regular basis...Although I consider it a privilege each time I am asked. Yesterday was especially special for me as I so easily related to the topic. It felt good to share some of my own struggles with striving for God's approval and not just living in His amazing grace.
Refuse to allow the evil one to deceive you with the truth that you will never be good enough. Instead, allow God to use that truth to set you free. The fact that you will never be good enough is actually good news! The pressure is off! It's not up to you to try to do it anymore. It's up to Christ to do it through you.
Stop saying "But when I" and start saying, "But when God". When you grasp the truth that when God calls you by His grace and not because you are good enough, that's when everything changes.
Key statement of the morning...When I realize that God accepts me through Christ, I am no longer living for His approval, but from His approval.
Celebrate with me the life change that happened yesterday morning!! There were a few people who indicated that they had prayed the prayer to receive Christ and several who prayed that God would set them free from the performance trap!!
December 31st marks the end of the 1st quarter of our fiscal year. Thank you for your continued generosity...Offerings are up $16,000 over budget.
If you currently are not tithing, why not make that one of your New Years Resolutions? You will never regret it!
Advent Conspiracy current total...$23,218. You still have the rest of this week to contribute.
Next Sunday...You Can't Please Everyone.
As always...Don't just talk about it. Be about it!
