Monday Morning Recap. 11.29
The Monday Morning Recap.....on Thursday.....hopefully better late than never. Just want to say thank you for the privilege it was to speak this past Sunday. I have to admit that before it was time to go up and speak, I was thinking "Oh no, this service has been amazing so far...don't mess it up Jason." Hopefully I didn't. Watching people declare their faith and get baptized never gets old and then to encompass it with a time of authentic worship like we did is so good for my soul. Glory to God .......... forever.
Like I said Sunday, I am thrilled to be a part of this church and where we are headed in the next 5 years, but I also believe that our impact to help people find Jesus and live like Him is directly tied to our willingness to obey our scriptural mandate to be rooted in community. I have received several emails and phone calls this week about how many of you never made the connection to Jesus' prayer in John 17:20-21 and the expression of His prayer by the local church in Acts 2:42-47. The Scriptures are clear: when believers are committed to each other in community 2 things happen: people far from God find Jesus & believers in community learn what it means to live like Jesus ---- Lifechange! This is what we hope to be about at Oakbrook but it takes ALL of us to be a part of a community of believers for us to have maximal impact. So as I said Sunday - let's not just talk about it, let's be about it! Being in a small group is not just another thing to do rather it is how followers of Jesus have been called to live. Small groups are a movement that God uses to build the Kingdom...small groups are where we connect, grow, and serve.....small groups are how we faithfully respond to the Word of God.....small groups are how we 'Go & Make Disciples'. Let's be a 'Total Church' - one that is faithful to the word and faithful to the community!
If you are not in a group - sign up online today - it is your responsibility as a follower of Jesus to be committed to community.
We believe without a doubt that everyone has been called to be in a group so that we can be the church God is calling us to be.
If you would be willing to host a group for a 4 week series starting Jan. 23rd - please let us know. A HOST is someone who: has a HEART for people, is willing to OPEN their home for 3-4 weeks, SERVE some refreshments, and TELL a few friends to join them. We will help you with the rest. Would you be willing to be a HOST?
SUNDAYS + 2 ..... be here on Sundays, be in a group, be on a serving team. Are you in?
Don't forget to make those Christmas invitations......this will be a fantastic service for the entire family! Dec. 19th at 9 & 11am.
