Monday Morning (or afternoon) Recap, 11.02
Well I have to say I’ve never before been serenaded by over 600 people singing me “Happy Birthday;” thanks so much!
Wow—what a GIGANTIC impact the new projection is in the middle of our stage! It really aided the communication whether it was announcement support, worship lyrics, Scripture verses or message support. I never thought our side screen could appear small!
Let me let you in on a secret: That center projection was birthed out of the creativity of having a bare-bones budget. We didn’t but new projectors or super-expensive equipment. The guys in our programming and tech depts. put their heads together and allocated our current four projectors in order to project onto the scrim (white cloth background) we already had!
I love it when God’s people won’t let lack of dollars keep them from communicating the truth of the Gospel message to its utmost effectiveness. Way to go guys!
As Mark mentioned, it’s great to have new musicians get in the game of serving God with their talents. That was Jim Leslie (dir of American Cancer Society) on keyboard and Justin Alter (local attorney) on drums. “Woot woot!” Sorry, couldn’t help myself ![]()
Mark did another phenomenal job with his talk on surviving loss. If you missed it, get it (and all our talks) FREE on iTunes. Search: “Oakbrook Podcasts.” (click to open Podcasts in iTunes)
He got a lot of information from a great book called A Grace Disguised.
Here’s a quote Mark shared:
“The experience of loss does not have to be the defining moment of our lives. Instead, the defining moment can be our response to the loss. It is not what happens to us that matters so much as what happens in us.”
This might sound cliché and a little like putting a band aid on a deep wound, but not so when you consider the author’s own story:
Jerry Sittser’s book was written after his person ordeal of losing three generations of his own family in a catastrophic car accident. His mother, wife and daughter were all killed.
Mark quoted Sittser when he said, “Out way out (of the loss) is the way in.” We can’t run from the loss, but must immerse ourselves in it—sometimes getting worse before it gets better---and ultimately finding healing through Christ.

Nice re-cap Morgan. Just an added observation, the center screen projection is nice, but about a-third of the view of that screen is obscured for people sitting to the far-right of the presenter, or the far-left seats if you’re facing the stage. We couldn’t see a lot of the words on the left of the screen when projected. Mike.

Some time before, I did need to buy a good house for my firm but I didn’t earn enough money and couldn’t order something. Thank heaven my brother adviced to take the credit loans at creditors. Thence, I acted so and used to be satisfied with my college loan.
