Monday Afternoon Recap, 12.21
Thoughts from yesterday….sorry I’m late getting this out. Had some computer challenges today and I have been putting some final touches on the Christmas talk.
Hard to believe Christmas week is here! It’s going to be a great week. All our kids will be home to celebrate the coming of Christ together. Life just doesn’t get any better. Enjoy those who mean the most to you this week!
The Programming Team has been working on the Christmas experience for months. This year’s service will be quite different from the previous 2-3 years. I think you will get up Christmas morning clearly focused on Christ because of these experiences. Thanks Programming Team for all the hard work!
Christmas Services are the highest attended services each year at Oakbrook. Why? Because people who never go to church want to go on Christmas! It is by far the easiest service to invite people too…you still have time to call a friend, invite a co-worker. This is a great way to invite someone…(CLICK ME!)
Great job Dave Horine and the worship crew! The band was tight. Really enjoyed singing the words, “In my life, in our world, in my love…be lifted high.” That’s a great prayer to live.
I also really enjoyed 30til once again. Some smooth Christmas jazz with a cup of great coffee in a wonderful environment with wonderful friends…great way to start the day. Big thanks to the guys who played!!
Morgan’s talk was strong as usual. Loved the Marine video in his introduction. Why does the church shrink back from calling people to full devotion in Christ? It is the only way to follow Him! The cost to follow is nothing compared to the rewards!
I thought Morgan’s point ”what will my little contribution do to help fight poverty” was excellent. He’s so right-will we never be great golfers but we will spend the cash to try. We will never be the next Bob Villa but we will buy the power tools! Our giving matters.
I’m really looking forward to giving to the year-end offering this year…seriously I am. I really don’t need anything for Christmas. Like most of you I already have way too much stuff. To add to that pile would be insane! And to think I can help other people in need has really brought me back to the true meaning of the season…giving. Lets all get generous this Christmas.
Don’t forget…No Sunday Service on Dec. 27th. The Wednesday/Thursday experiences will take the place of Sunday the 27th. To all our wonderful, amazing volunteers who serve so faithfully week-end and week-out…enjoy a much deserved Sunday off!
New series starts Jan. 3, 2010…”You Don’t Have What It Takes!” Wk.1-You Aren’t Good Enough. Wk.2-You Can’t Please Everyone. Wk. 3-You Can’t Handle It All. Wk. 4-You Can’t Control the Future. Should be a blast!
As always…Don’t Just Talk About It, Be About It!
Love doing church with you guys,
Mark
